Instilling Leadership Skills and Motivating Students

Connexions partnered with Lord Aylmer School to create lunch-time activities for students in Grades 3 to 6 to increase their sense of community and belonging in the school.

A facilitator provided students with fun, hands-on activities that included planting and maintaining school gardens, building bird houses and snow targets from recycled materials, painting silhouette’s of the students at the school gym, building an obstacle course and taking part in other outdoor activities, and learning about healthy eating by making healthy snacks. The students then had the chance to share these snacks and all that they had learned with the school’s kindergarten students.

Through these fun activities, the students learned new skills, took-on a leadership role in the school and helped to create a positive school environment.
