The kids had a blast at this morning’s Itsy Bitsy Tots Playgroup as they enjoyed some free-play, a healthy snack and some yoga-time outside with Catherine, the Community Learning Centre (CLC) Coordinator at Pierre Elliott Trudeau School (PETES) in Gatineau (Hull Sector). The kids sang some songs, tried out some different yoga moves and even pretended to hop like frogs and stretch-out like a yellow banana. It was a great wrap-up for our last playgroup before the summer months.
We would like to thank our facilitator Chantelle for leading the playgroup, providing several hands-on cooking activities with the group making humus, smoothies and fruit kebabs, leading activities outdoors, and organizing themed crafts. Chantelle also welcomed several guests to the group, including:
- Big Phil, the gross-motor facilitator at PETES, who provided fun physical activities with the children;
- Sophie, a dental hygienist, who introduced the kids to proper brushing with her dinosaur puppet;
- Sabrina, a registered dietitian, who discussed ways to help with fussy eaters.
At the end of today’s playgroup, Chantelle also distributed some of our School Readiness Kits for parents who had children entering kindergarten. The kit includes resources for English-speaking families of the Outaouais to help them prepare their children for the transition from home or daycare to school. The contents of the kit focus on parenting skills to establish routines and healthy lifestyles, access to health and community services, and early literacy and fine-motor activities. Students in the Early Childhood Education program at CEGEP Heritage College developed the fine-motor activity for the children and the tip sheets for parents on the importance of reading, how to establish routines and supporting new friendships. Naitre et Grandir provided social skills cards, a sharing emotions game and an early reader.
We would like to thank our many parents and their children who visited us throughout the 2016-2017 year and who helped make the Itsy Bitsy Tots Playgroup such a fun experience for all!! Have a wonderful, safe and happy summer break!!
Enjoy the pics!!
