Congratulations to our 2020 Bursary Recipents!

This year, Connexions awarded $25,000 through the Health and Social Services Community Bursary Program to support three students in the completion of their studies in the field of health and social services.

Congratulations to Sifuni Kajiru (McGill School of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing – Integrated Nursing), Julien Prévost (University of Montreal, Masters in Advanced Pharmacotherapy), and Valerie Beaubrun (McGill School of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing – Integrated Nursing). Left to right.

The aim of the bursary is to increase the number of bilingual health and social services professionals working in the Outaouais. As recipients of the Bursary, these students have demonstrated their involvement in the community and have agreed to pursue careers in the Outaouais for one year following graduation.

Since 2011, Connexions has awarded 30 bursaries totalling $183,750.00 to 30 bilingual students from the Outaouais enrolled in health care or social services studies. McGill University funds this initiative through a financial contribution from Health Canada.

Our next call for applications is in Spring 2021.

“Doing my program full-time and working enough to support myself would have been impossible. The Nursing program has a heavy course load, and working less is allowing me to obtain amazing grades, which will mean pursuing my Master’s in the future.” – Sifun

“This bursary allows me to focus on my studies without the stress that comes with financial burden. I am able to further enhance my nursing knowledge which in turn will benefit my community.” – Valerie

“During this master’s degree, I had to juggle classes, homework and exams, internships with patient care, writing and conducting a research protocol, etc. With the Bursary, I could fully concentrate on school without stressing about rent or grocery money, and I could even take extra time for myself to keep a balanced lifestyle.” – Julien
