Resources for High School & Transitioning to High School

The following are some useful resources for Grade 6 students heading to high school, students who are in high school and those who are graduating:

ReadyForHighSchool.ca is a website for grade 6 and secondary 1 students and their parents that lets them explore the new realities of being a high school student through games and advice. School transitions are key moments in a young person’s education, and each one comes with its share of anticipation and stress. Starting high school is no different. With the adaptations to schooling caused by the pandemic, it is clear that ReadyforHighSchool.ca, an original idea of the Table 5-12 ans de Rosemont, can play an important role in complementing local, community, and school initiatives.

Pathways to Education provides youth from low-income communities with the resources they need to graduate from high school and break the cycle of poverty.  Students in their program receive a comprehensive set of supports needed to overcome the barriers they face and succeed in school, including food vouchers, after-school tutoring and mentoring, financial support, and career planning. Graduation rates in the communities where they work have increased by up to an average of 85 per cent.

Hooked on School Days: School Perseverance (Tools & Resources): School perseverance can be a struggle for many children.  They might lack the motivation or self-confidence they need to stay in school and earn a high school diploma or a qualification, or they might be having a difficult time fitting the demands of school with other aspects of their lives.  In order to persevere, a child must find enough value in school.  This Webpage includes some great tools and resources to encourage school perseverance. Here’s a fun and inspiring activity that you can try-out with your child: Visualizing Success with a Vision Board Vision Boards are powerful motivational tools that can help kids identify their values, set priorities and visualize their goals.  By creating a vision board, young people can equip themselves with a means to stay focused on persevering while exploring their creative and artistic side.
