Talking about Postpartum Pelvic Health with Quelen Farias – Busting Common Pelvic Floor Myths

We would like to thank Quelen Farias, B.Sc. PT, Registered Physiotherapist, from Pelvic Support Physiotherapy  for joining us last Friday, January 31, for our first Baby Chat get-together of 2020.  Full bio.

We had a great time talking about the myths regarding postpartum pelvic health.  There are many myths about having a baby and compromised continence, among other undesirables. There’s the underlying assumption that childbirth dooms you to an unhealthy pelvic floor and that’s just how it is.  But Quelen Farias busts that long-held myth by asserting that though leaking urine is common, it is not normal; kegel exercises are not always the answer to all pelvic floor problems; and that painful sex, though it can happen after giving birth and as you age, is not normal.  See Quelen Farias’ Common Myths about Pelvic Health for more detailed information.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above or in the attached document, or maybe something else you think might be related to your pelvic health, make sure to talk to a health care professional about it.  If you are thinking about seeing a pelvic physiotherapist but don’t know anyone in your area, please feel free to contact Quelen Farias at .

You can also find tons of information online that discuss postpartum pelvic health and related myths.  For example, Healthline Parenthood’s Your Vagina After Childbirth Isn’t as Scary as You Think gives more detailed information on pelvic floor postpartum health.
