Connexions to Receive Government Funding to Improve the Quality of Life of English-Speaking Seniors

Christopher Skeete, the Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier for Relations with English-speaking Quebecers, has announced that English-speaking seniors will benefit from the ITMAV program (Initiatives de travail de milieu auprès des aînés en situation de vulnérabilité) of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, launched by Marguerite Blais, the Minister Responsible for Seniors, this past May 8.

Under the ITMAV program, $6.9 million has been set aside to finance 154 projects aiming to support seniors in vulnerable situations.  More specifically, this funding will enable community-based organizations to maintain existing positions or hire new staff to assist in guiding these people toward the appropriate resources within their communities, while enabling them to make their own choices for their well-being.

We are pleased to announce that Connexions is one of six organizations, serving English-speaking communities, selected in connection with this program to receive financing.

Due to the ITMAV program, the Connexions Resource Centre will be better able to support and improve the well-being and independence of vulnerable seniors in our community. We also wish to congratulate the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise for its key role in building bridges between the English-speaking community and Québec’s governmental organizations. This is a crucial role in ensuring that organizations such as Connexions have the opportunity to participate in government programs to upgrade their capacity to better serve the community.    —- Danielle Lanyi, Executive Director, Connexions Resource Centre
