Tips to Keep Warm When It’s Cold

Staying warm and safe is very important during the winter months, especially for our senior community.

As temperatures plummet with wind chill, the CISSS de l’Outaouais urges everyone to follow these essential cold-weather tips:
  • 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬: The top layer should be waterproof and windproof to keep the body dry;
  • 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: Keep your head, nose, mouth, neck, hands, and feet well covered.
  • 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲: Keep moving without sweating to stay warm.
  • 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐫𝐲: Wet clothing can lead to significant heat loss.
  • 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐭𝐡: Take breaks in warm, sheltered areas.
  • 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥: They can lower your body temperature rather than warm you up.
