Accessing Québec’s health and social services system can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially for English-speaking individuals and families who may face language or cultural barriers.
Patient Navigation was developed to help people overcome these challenges. Originally introduced to improve access to healthcare and reduce barriers to care, Patient Navigators help individuals navigate often complex health and social services, ensuring they receive the information, support, and connections they need.
At Connexions, our Patient Navigator supports English-speaking residents of the Outaouais by helping them better understand the healthcare system, connect with appropriate services, and navigate the steps involved in accessing care. They work alongside patients, families, and healthcare professionals to improve communication, reduce stress, and promote continuity of care.
Whether it’s answering questions, explaining available services, helping prepare for appointments, or simply offering reassurance during a difficult time, our Patient Navigator is here to make the healthcare journey easier to understand and less overwhelming. By empowering individuals with knowledge and support, patient navigation helps people feel more confident, informed, and connected throughout their healthcare experience.
We asked Andrea to explain in her own words what her role as Patient Navigator is, and a little about herself:

Hi, my name is Andrea! 😊
For me, being a Patient Navigator is about making sure people don’t have to navigate the healthcare and social service systems alone. It can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start, what services are available, or who to call. My role is to listen without judgment, understand each person’s unique situation, and help connect them with the resources and supports that best fit their needs.
Whether someone is looking for a family doctor, mental health supports, housing resources, caregiver assistance, financial or community programs, or simply isn’t sure where to begin, I’m here to help guide them through the process. Sometimes that means answering questions, attending appointments, helping complete forms, researching resources, creating a plan together, or simply being someone, they can talk things through with.
I want people to know that they don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. There is no issue too small or too complicated. My goal is to create a welcoming, safe, and supportive space where people feel heard, respected, and empowered. Every person’s journey is different, and I believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, compassion, and dignity.
A little about me: I genuinely enjoy connecting with people and learning people’s stories. Building meaningful relationships and earning trust are incredibly important to me. I know that asking for help can sometimes feel difficult, so I hope to make that first step feel a little easier. Aside from my work, I enjoy spending time in nature, painting, and giving loads of love to my cat, Luna.
With all this being said, above all, I want people to know that they are not alone. My hope is that everyone who reaches out to Connexions feels welcomed, supported, and leaves knowing they have someone in their corner.
