Support for Caregivers

  • L’Appui proches aidants is an organization dedicated to supporting caregivers of seniors so they needn’t feel alone in their role. APPUI’s projects focus on the development of training, psychological support and respite. They have a listing of support organizations and services in the Outaouais and publish a monthly APPUI Caregiver Newsletter.
  • Société Alzheimer Outaouais accompanies and educates people affected by a neurocognitive disorder, such as Alzheimer’s disease; respite and Day Centre. 
  • Connexions Caregiver’s Circle offers one-on-one support, workshops and support groups for caregivers of seniors who are 65 and over.
  • Héberge Vac Desjardins offers temporary respite lodging for people aged 50 and over living at home with loss of autonomy, as well as for their caregivers, to help improve their quality of life by encouraging them to interact with their environment.   • Pontiac Resources for Seniors is a directory of services for seniors living in the Pontiac. This document is also a great resource for caregivers who are looking for resources for their loved ones.

Community Services

  • Remue-ménage (RMO) offers a complete line of at-home / domestic services such as light housekeeping, laundry, preparing non-specialized meals, shopping and some care-taking. Persons 65 years and over, and those designated by the CLSC, are eligible for some financial assistance.
  • Centre Serge Bélair offers respite to families of people with intellectual disabilities. For more information, call 819-683-2345.
  • Golden Peak offers respite services, house cleaning, meal preparation (no diet), accompaniment on errands for seniors and people with loss of autonomy, and emergency alarm systems. 
  • Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers Responsible for Seniors Forum is an intergovernmental body established to share information, discuss new and emerging issues related to seniors, and work collaboratively on key projects.  The website includes a Benefits Finder, Social Isolation and Social Innovation Toolkit, Supplements to the Social Isolation and Social Innovation Toolkit and more.
