- Have a combined income (yours and your spouse/common-law partner) below $28,560 if your spouse/common-law partner receives the full OAS pension
- Have a combined income (yours and your spouse/common-law partner) below $39,984 if your spouse/common-law partner receives the Allowance
- Have a combined income (yours and your spouse/common-law partner) below $51,840 if your spouse/common-law partner does not receive either the OAS pension or the Allowance
How to Apply
If you are not currently receiving the GIS, you can apply online through a My Service Canada Account (MSCA) or complete a Guaranteed Income Supplement application form (ISP3025) available on the Service Canada website and mail it to the nearest Service Canada office.
How to Renew
GIS benefits are renewed automatically each July, provided that the client files an income tax return by April 30. To avoid any interruptions in your benefits, make sure to file your taxes electronically with the Canada Revenue Agency before April 30.
