Radiation Oncology Technologist

Technologue en radio-oncologie

Radiation Oncology Technologists work closely with many specialists, especially radiation oncologist doctors and medical physicists. Their main role is to conduct examinations called CT scans to pinpoint the location of tumors and surrounding normal organs. They will also organize and provide radiation treatment as prescribed to patients for different types of cancer. They welcome and prepare patients for each treatment session and provide follow-up information on the progress and effects of treatment. In the areas of diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine, they may also use equipment and techniques for producing images for medical diagnosis. Radiation Oncology Technologists work in cancer treatment centres and hospitals.

SALARY

$21.67 to $31.72 per hour

EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN QUÉBEC

  • 3-year Cégep Diploma
  • The program in Diagnostic Imaging is offered in English at Cégep Dawson College, and in French at various other Cégeps.
  • Membership in the Ordre professionnel des technologues en radiologie du Québec

PREREQUISITES

High School diploma with Sec V Mathematics and Science or Physical Science
