Conseiller en soins spéciaux
Special Care Counsellors work in a variety of settings with persons who have physical, mental, emotional, and/or behavioural needs. Their clients may be experiencing trauma through violence, physical or substance abuse, or accidents, and need support in gaining more autonomy as they reintegrate into society. They observe clients’ attitudes and behaviors, participate in needs assessments, develop individual action plans, facilitate individual and group activities, and make periodic assessments to monitor individual progress and adaptation. Special Care Counsellors may also work in inclusive and special education to address students’ language and learning difficulties. They can work in a variety of settings, such as educational institutions (pre-school to higher education), short and long-term care facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, CLSCs, residences for the elderly, shelters, group homes, and other social services facilities.
SALARY
$22.64 to $31.72 per hour
EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN QUÉBEC
- 3-year Cégep Diploma
- The Special Care Counselling training is offered in most regions of Québec.
- Cégep Heritage College,
- Cégep Champlain Regional College, and
- Vanier College offer the program in English.
