We would like to thank our parents and WQSB staff and teachers who attended last night’s Information Session on Helping Children Cope with Big Emotions. We would also like to give a huge thanks to our guest facilitator, Joanne Doucette, MSW, RSW, Registered Social Worker at the Child, Adolescent and Family Centre of Ottawa for such an informative, dynamic and engaging presentation. Thank you!
It was a great session and an opportunity for parents and staff to learn about how to effectively respond to children who are sensitive, anxious, easily frustrated or displaying challenging behaviours, and how to soothe these strong emotions, while solving problems together through the use of active listening, empathy and “mirroring.
The Information Session included some skits with guests Josette Kodsi, Social Worker at the WQSB, and Anne Valcov, Principale at Dr. S. E. McDowell Elementary School, a role-playing activity to allow participants to try some of the scenarios discussed and a chance throughout the presentation to ask questions.
